About the Portfolio

At the end of the school year, you will submit a portfolio of your artwork for review.

Each of the three Art and Design portfolios (2-D, 3-D, and Drawing) has two portfolio components: Sustained Investigation and Selected Works. Each component demands you to demonstrate fundamental competency and a range of understanding in visual concerns and methodologies as defined in the AP Art and Design grading standards. Portfolio components are rated separately, and each contributes to the overall portfolio score, which is based on a 5-point scale.

Note: You may submit more than one Art and Design portfolio test in a given year, but each must be of a distinct type. Portfolios may not contain duplicate works or photos, and portfolios may not be combined. If you want to submit a portfolio for both Drawing and 2-D Art and Design, you must submit two distinct portfolios with two completely different sets of artwork, two unique inquiry statements, and your AP coordinator must order two examinations for you.
